Taylor Lapilus vs. Yuta Sasaki

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: Michal Biel/Sherdog.com

Lapilus stopped Sasaki in the second frame.
Sasaki circles to his right around the perimeter, checking the incoming Lapilus with a few quick low kicks, then wrapping up the Frenchman with a body lock and tripping him to the ground. Lapilus pops back up and is held against the cage by Sasaki with over-unders. The bantamweights jockey for position, exchanging knees and stomps while referee Wolf Menninger calls for work. Ninety seconds in, Lapilus takes control of the outside position and drives an elbow into Sasaki’s face. “Ulka” tries for an inside trip, but Lapilus keeps his balance.

They spend the middle of the round fighting on the fence, until Sasaki finally breaks out inside the final two minutes. Lapilus catches him on the fence again and scores with more elbows, then knees to the body, keeping his head underneath the former Shooto fighter’s chin. Lapilus releases to throw a pair of hard left hands, and Sasaki circles away, landing a few leg kicks from his back foot. Lapilus denies a shot from Sasaki, sends a left hand across the center and hits Sasaki with a spinning elbow to end the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Lapilus
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Lapilus
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Lapilus

Round 2

Sasaki begins round two the same as round one, circling to his right, throwing leg kicks and trying to avoid the left hand of his fellow southpaw. The Japanese fighter grabs for a single-leg in the center of the cage and is again denied by Lapilus, who goes right back to stalking Sasaki near the fence from a foot away. A pair of straight lefts sends Sasaki to the canvas at the base of the fence, and Lapilus stands over his downed opponent, following up with a dozen more left hands until referee Menninger intervenes.

The Official Result

Taylor Lapilus def. Yuta Sasaki via TKO (Punches) R2 1:26

Piotr Hallmann vs. Magomed Mustafaev

Round 1

Hallmann catches Mustafaev’s opening front kick and socks him with a right hand to the chin. Mustafaev yanks the leg back and grabs hold of Hallmann, shoving him against the fence for a few moments and then exiting the clinch with a hard punch. A leg kick from Hallmann chops the Russian to the ground, but the lightweights scramble right back up. Hallmann pressures Mustafaev against the fence, gets turned around and has to fend off a single-leg takedown from Mustafaev. Ninety seconds in, Mustafaev releases and the fighters move back to the center. Hallmann tries to grab the Thai clinch and winds up eating a pair of uppercuts. Back to the fence they go, Hallmann taking the outside and throwing knees to the body, but Mustafaev trips him to the ground. As Hallmann stands, Mustafaev catches him with an uppercut and then spins around with a turning kick to the gut. Hallmann catches Mustafaev throwing another kick and shoves him to the ground, then comes down into the Russian’s guard with just under two minutes remaining. Mustafaev threatens with an armbar, can’t keep hold and eats a couple punches for his trouble. Hallmann keeps the ground-and-pound coming down the stretch, keeping Mustafaev pinned to the ground while peppering with short punches and a few hard elbows toward the end.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Mustafaev
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Hallmann
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Mustafaev

Round 2

Mustafaev busted up Hallman's left eye.
Hallmann gets inside with a cracking right hand, wraps up Mustafaev around the waist and drags him to the canvas near the fence. Mustafaev grabs for an arm underneath, looking for a submission, and he uses it to escape back to his feet. Now it’s Mustafaev holding Hallmann on the fence, roughing him up with knees and punches. Hallmann turns him around and begins foot-stomping, then drives knees into Mustafaev’s body until the Russian puts up a knee to defend. Hallmann exits the clinch with a nasty cut over his left eye, blood dripping down his face.

Referee Kevin Sataki wants the doctor to have a look at the cut, and the doctor doesn’t appear to like what he’s seeing. The fight is waved off, giving Mustafaev the victory via technical knockout.

The Official Result

Magomed Mustafaev def. Piotr Hallmann via TKO (Doctor Stoppage) R2 3:24

Scott Askham vs. Antonio Dos Santos Jr.

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: M. Biel/Sherdog.com

Askham tore right through Dos Santos Jr.
Askham takes the center of the cage and exchanges leg kicks with dos Santos, then slips throwing a right high kick. Dos Santos gives Askham no chance to regain his footing, rushing the Englishman against the fence as he tries to stand up. “Junior Alpha” holds Askham on the cage with an underhook and throws a few knees to the body, then drops down to try a single-leg. Askham denies the takedown and separates, and now the middleweights are back to circling with just over three minutes left in the round. Dos Santos tries to wrap up Askham on the fence again and gets tripped to his knees, then bounces back up and gives the taller man some space. Askham hits dos Santos with a low kick, one to the body. Dos Santos comes charging at Askham and runs into a clean left uppercut to the jaw. The Brazilian hits the ground in a heap, somehow regains his senses and stands up before referee Leon Roberts can recognize the extent of the damage. Askham keeps the pressure on, unloading with more punches, then a pair of clinch knees to the face put dos Santos down for the count.

The Official Result

Scott Askham def. Antonio Dos Santos Jr. via KO (Knees) R1 2:52

Niklas Backstrom vs. Noad Lahat

Round 1

Lahat floors Backstrom with a strong takedown near the center of the cage, then works to advance position as the Swede tries to entangle him from underneath. Backstrom creeps up his left leg into rubber guard position, then sneaks it under Lahat’s chin and tries to execute a gogoplata, but “Neo” escapes and the featherweights wind up in a scramble. Backstrom takes top position in the transition, then slips around to take Lahat’s back and secures the rear mount with a body triangle. Lahat tries to peel away the triangle, leaving his neck exposed for a rear-naked choke. Backstrom can’t complete the choke but continues working for it, wrapping his right arm around Lahat’s jaw and cranking. Lahat resists this submission, too, but still can’t free himself from Backstrom’s back mount. With seconds left in the round, just as Lahat is able to turn into Backstrom and free himself, Backstrom dives on an armbar and finishes the frame attacking.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Backstrom
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Backstrom
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Backstrom

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: M. Biel/Sherdog.com

Lahat outhustled Backstrom.
Backstrom steps into range and eats an uppercut from Lahat, then a pair of short right hands in the clinch. The featherweights separate and Lahat tries to charge Backstrom against the fence, but Backstrom reverses and they soon disengage. Lahat sprawls on a long single-leg takedown attempt, stands up Backstrom with a guillotine attempt and launches a high kick to back him off. Backstrom is bleeding from the left side of his forehead, cut open from Lahat’s punches in the opening moments of the round. The featherweights tangle up near the fence, and Lahat delivers four or five hard punches upstairs after missing a trip takedown. Backstrom is fading fast, covering up and just barely keeping his balance as he stands near the fence on wobbly legs. Lahat succumbs to a slow single-leg in the center, nearly rolls Backstrom over the top and instead sits up to try and take Backstrom’s back. Backstrom blocks the back-take, so Lahat steps straight into full mount and begins thumping Backstrom’s face with hammer fists and elbows. Lahat peels off to the side, stretching out Backstrom’s left arm with an armbar, but when Backstrom doesn’t tap, Lahat gives it up. Lahat attempts a brief north-south choke, can’t get the tap and goes back to full mount, where he blasts Backstrom with more elbows, more punches. Backstrom pushes him back to guard, and Lahat stands in the final 20 seconds to kick at the prone Backstrom’s legs.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Lahat
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-8 Lahat
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Lahat

Round 3

Lahat takes the better part of a minute to hit Backstrom with a clean strike, but when he does, it’s a nice right cross which sends the Swede shooting for a takedown. Backstrom gets Lahat on the ground for a moment, then both featherweights scramble back up. Lahat is cut beneath his right eye now, though it doesn’t look like anything serious. Backstrom shoots for and completes a quick double-leg near the fence, and Lahat sits up against the fence to hit Backstrom with a few elbows. Backstrom flattens him out but gets rolled over, then kicks off the cage to stand when Lahat gives him enough space. Backstrom jumps on Lahat’s back and rides him to the ground, but he doesn’t have hooks secured and Lahat grabs Backstrom’s left leg to drop back for a heel hook or Achilles lock. Lahat gives up the leg to take top position, then gets kicked away by Backstrom, who drives forward to complete another takedown against the cage. With one minute left, it’s Backstrom on top, wrapping up Lahat’s legs while the American Top Team product tries to hit the switch. Backstrom keeps his man on the ground to the final horn, transitioning to take Lahat’s back just before time expires.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Backstrom (29-28 Backstrom)
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Backstrom (28-28 Draw)

Alan Omer vs. Arnold Allen

Round 1

Omer tries to press in on the southpaw Allen, gets backed out by a body kick, and now Allen circles off the cage to meet his man in the center. Omer gets into range with a hook, then pulls down Allen’s head in the Thai clinch and sends a knee up the middle. A right hook scores for Omer, then a jab, and Allen gets one back with a left hand. Now it’s Allen pressing forward, hitting Omer with a close-quarters elbow, and Omer retaliates with a short left hand in the pocket. The fighters clinch in the center, Omer delivers another knee up the center and then slips out of range as Allen tries to punch. Omer puts a pair of kicks inside Allen’s lead leg, but Allen comes right back with a blistering overhand left. Allen changes levels and charges Omer to the ground, but Omer throws up an instant triangle and works to cinch the choke with 40 seconds on the clock. Omer can’t close the triangle but manages to hit Allen with elbows and punches from his back in the last half minute.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Omer
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Omer
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Omer

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: M. Biel/Sherdog.com

Allen took out Omer with a choke.
Omer ducks under a wide punch from Allen, wraps up the Englishman and trips him to the canvas near the center of the Octagon. From underneath, Allen forces Omer out of half guard with a kimura attempt, then grabs for Omer’s legs. Omer grabs the fence and stands up, but the foul goes unnoticed by referee Wolf Menninger. The featherweights are back on their feet, trading punches in the center of the cage, and Omer tags Allen with a nice right hook. Allen gets him right back with a straight left which backs up Omer to the fence, and now Allen digs an underhook to keep his opponent pressed against the cage.

Omer gets double underhooks and walks Allen to the other side of the cage, hitting Allen’s body with knees on the way. Allen hits a trip that sends Omer to the ground, then tries to jump on Omer’s back as they stand. Allen gets tripped to the ground and kneels, allowing Omer to jump on his back and sink in both hooks. Allen stands with Omer still on his back, then kneels back on the ground and shakes him off. They come back to the feet in the final minute, and Omer holds Allen on the fence in a tired clinch.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Omer
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Omer
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Omer

Round 3

Omer clinches up and shoves Allen against a cage post, working an underhook with his left arm while threatening to punch with the right. One minute into the round, Omer plants Allen on his seat near the fence, then grabs for the Englishman’s neck when Allen leans forward to try and stand. Allen climbs back to his feet and keeps one hand on the ground to avoid knees to the head, so Omer drills him with a knee to the gut instead. Out of nowhere, Allen snatches Omer’s neck, breaking him down to the ground in a guillotine choke. Almost as soon as he hits the mat, Omer taps out to the modified guillotine.

The Official Result

Arnold Allen def. Alan Omer via Submission (Guillotine Choke) R3 1:41

Mairbek Taisumov vs. Alan Patrick Silva Alves

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: M. Biel/Sherdog.com

Taisumov dispatched Alves in round two.
Patrick dives straight for Taisumov’s legs and hustles him to the ground near the fence, but Taisumov pops right back up. The lightweights separate and meet back in the center, where Patrick feints and weaves from a wide, unorthodox southpaw stance. Taisumov catches Patrick ducking low and cracks him with a knee, then Taisumov blocks a spinning back fist and tags the Brazilian with a short right hand. Patrick lands an inside leg kick which strays to the cup, but Taisumov says he’s fine to continue. The next foul, a thumb to the eye, takes an effect on Taisumov, who covers up and leans against the fence while referee Kevin Sataki calls time. The doctor comes in to check on Taisumov, who’s still squinting and unable to fully open his left eye. After a minute transpires, referee Sataki urges the doctor to make a decision. The doctor looks unsure, but Taisumov wants to continue and the fight will go on.When action resumes, Patrick shoots for a takedown but has to back out when Taisumov threatens with a guillotine. Patrick walks into a straight right hand from Taisumov, who walks down the Brazilian near the fence with two minutes remaining in the round. A long, high single-leg shot from Patrick is sidestepped by Taisumov, leaving “Nuguette” crashing head-first into the fence. Taisumov’s right hand is finding its mark nearly every time he throws it, leaving Patrick hesitant to step into the pocket. Patrick tries a wacky cartwheel kick which misses by a mile, and a few fans in the German crowd boo the maneuver.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Taisumov
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Taisumov
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Taisumov

Round 2

Patrick ties to close the distance on Taisumov and winds up running into the fence as the Russian slides away. The straight right scores again for Taisumov, and southpaw Patrick paws with a few punches which don’t come anywhere close to landing. Taisumov sprawls on a shot, stuffing Patrick’s face into the ground, then whips up a right high kick that catches Patrick on the temple. Patrick crashes to his seat near the fence, and Taisumov stands over him, dropping thunderous punches until referee Sataki steps in to stop the fight.

The Official Result

Mairbek Taisumov def. Alan Patrick Silva Alves via TKO (Head Kick and Punches) R2 1:30

Makwan Amirkhani vs. Masio Fullen

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: M. Biel/Sherdog.com

Amirkhani locked up the choke quickly.
Amirkhani shoots on Fullen’s legs, takes him to the ground near the center of the cage and transitions straight to back mount. Securing the position with a body triangle, Amirkhani begins working for a rear-naked choke, lashing his right arm around Fullen’s throat. The Mexican tucks his chin and works to fight off the choke, grabbing at Amirkhani’s hands to try and peel them away. The RNC is too deep, and when Amirkhani finally bears down with his full strength, Fullen is forced to submit.

The Official Result

Makwan Amirkhani def. Masio Fullen via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 1:41

Nick Hein vs. Lukasz Sajewski

Round 1

Sajewski throws a low kick and is countered over the top by a quick left hand from the southpaw. The Pole keeps coming to wrap up Hein and push him against the fence, but the clinch doesn’t last long. Sajewski runs in while Hein is throwing a leg kick, knocking the “Sergeant” to the ground. Hein pops back up, gets pressed against the fence with an underhook by Sajewski and throws a few knees to the body with his back to the fence. Sajewski releases to land a knee of his own, and now the lightweights reset with three minutes left in the opening round. A minute elapses without much offense from either man, then Hein catches Sajewski with a short uppercut and follow-up left hook. Sajewski tries to rush into the pocket and gets body-locked, then tossed to the ground. Sajewski stands up, grabbing the fence and receiving a warning from referee Kevin Sataki, only to grab the fence again right away. Hein backs off to the center of the cage, allowing Sajewski to step forward. Hein goes to throw and gets picked off by Sajewski’s left hook counter. A pair of straight lefts lands for Hein, but the second one comes with another counter hook from Sajewski.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Hein
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Hein

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: M. Biel/Sherdog.com

Hein handed Sajewski his first loss.
Sajewski comes out aggressive, walking down Hein and lunging at him with punches and front kicks, though he can’t find the range. When Sajewski corners Hein near the fence, the German catches him with a solid left hook, forcing the “Wookiee” to back out. There’s another minute with little activity as Sajewski follows Hein around the perimeter. Hein finds the mark with another left hook, tries to wrap up Sajewski and gets pushed away. Sajewski charges forward, gets swept aside with another left-handed counter, then takes a deep breath before walking after Hein again. Hein dodges a telegraphed spinning back fist, continues to cut angles and catches Sajewski leaning over to tag him with a left. Again, Hein clinches with Sajewski and tries to spin him to the mat, but the Polish fighter keeps his balance. Inside the last 40 seconds of the round, Hein looks the much fresher fighter as he kicks at Sajewski’s lead leg and hops away on the balls of his feet. Sajewski takes a body kick to the right flank just before time expires.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Hein
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Hein
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Hein

Round 3

Sajewski stands flat-footed in the center of the cage and eats a straight left down the pipe. Hein kicks at Sajewski’s lead leg and continues bouncing around just outside of range. Hein clinches with Sajewski, then shoves him away, giving the Polish fighter a finger in the right eye on the way out. Sajewski recovers after a few seconds and trudges ahead on Hein, who’s waiting with more straight punches and leg kicks. Sajewski won’t be stopped, just keeps walking forward, even though he’s offering almost zero offense at this point. Hein pops him with a one-two, then a right hook stumbles Sajewski. They’re inside the final minute, and Hein appears content to stay on his back foot, picking at Sajewski to the final horn.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Hein (30-27 Hein)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Hein (30-27 Hein)

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: M. Biel/Sherdog.com

Sobotta struck quick on Kennedy.
Sobotta goes straight after Kennedy, rushing the Australian toward the fence with high kicks and straight punches. Now, Sobotta adds in a few low kicks, swings and catches Kennedy with a right hook on the chin. Sobotta gets a trip takedown, but Kennedy quickly sweeps and drives forward to pin Sobotta against the cage with a double-leg attempt. Sobotta underhooks the Aussie’s arms and turns him to the ground, then slips around to jump on Kennedy’s back. Locking up the position with a body triangle, Sobotta goes fishing for a rear-naked choke. Kennedy defends at first but is soon caught with Sobotta’s left arm wrapped around his throat and is forced to tap out.

The Official Result

Peter Sobotta def. Steve Kennedy via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 2:57

Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Dennis Siver

Round 1

Kawajiri flashes a spinning kick and a jumping kick as the bout begins, keeping the shorter Siver out of striking range through most of the opening minute. Siver ducks under a spinning back fist, misses with a pair of punches of his own, then hits Kawajiri’s lead leg with a kick. Kawajiri gets in on a single-leg, pushes Siver to the fence and lifts him for a slam, but Siver goes heavy and keeps his balance, freeing himself from Kawajiri’s clutches in the process. The featherweights are back to striking at range now, Siver adding a few more leg kicks and then clipping Kawajiri with a pair of hard left hooks. Kawajiri goes underneath the next left hand and tries for another takedown on the fence, but again Siver escapes. A spinning back kick scores for Siver, but Kawajiri doesn’t react and soon after shoots in to try another takedown. With Kawajiri on his knees, digging for a single-leg, Siver threatens with a guillotine and then hops off the fence. They’re back on their feet with 60 seconds on the clock, then Kawajiri slides to his knees and shoots another takedown attempt. Hopping on one leg with his back to the fence, Siver tries to frame up the guillotine again, but Kawajiri finally completes the takedown in the last 10 seconds and closes the round on top.

Sherdog Scores

Round 2

Kawajiri did enough to slip by Siver.
Siver sends a spinning back kick off Kawajiri’s right arm, evades a spinning elbow from the Japanese fighter and adds a couple more leg kicks to his tally. Kawajiri is denied on a single-leg attempt, then catches a front kick and goes straight after another. Siver’s back is against the cage again, his base wide as he shuts down another takedown try. Two minutes into the round, Kawajiri succeeds in tripping Siver to the ground and triangles the striker’s right leg to try and keep him grounded. It’s half guard for Kawajiri with two minutes on the clock, and now Siver is warned for grabbing the fence by referee Leon Roberts. Kawajiri loops his arms under Siver’s shoulders and tries to step over to full mount, but he’s kept in half guard. Posturing up in Siver’s guard, Kawajiri drops a few strikes and then finds an opening to take full mount. Siver gets a knee inside and elevates Kawajiri to kick him out of mount for the final 20 seconds.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Kawajiri
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Kawajiri
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Kawajiri

Round 3

Kawajiri clips Siver with a spinning back fist but fails on the single-leg shot behind it. Undeterred, the “Crusher” drops to his knees for another takedown attempt and pushes Siver to the fence. Siver pulls guard with a guillotine choke, but Kawajiri lands in his half guard, making the choke almost impossible to finish. Siver abandons the guillotine, posts and stands, then covers up as Kawajiri throws a pair of hard hooks. Kawajiri stumbles throwing his next combo and nearly has his back taken on the feet as Siver slips around to the rear. Kawajiri turns around, pushes Siver against the cage and drops to the familiar position to work on a single-leg. Siver keeps his balance and hunts for the guillotine again, but it’s more difficult now as Kawajiri drops to his knees. Finally, Kawajiri lifts and slams his opponent, but he lands in Siver’s guard and now finds himself endangered by the guillotine. After a scary few seconds, Kawajiri passes to half guard and frees his head. Siver reclaims full guard with just over one minute remaining in the fight and throws punches from his back, receiving a warning from referee Roberts to mind the back of the head. Kawajiri tries to get busy with elbows in the last 30 seconds and manages to put four or five hard shots on Siver’s face.

UFC Strawweight Title Fight:
Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Penne

Round 1

Marc Goddard is the referee for tonight’s 115-pound championship bout, with judges Mark Collett, Takeo Kobayashi and Paul Sutherland scoring at cageside. The champion gets up in Penne’s face during final instructions, but the strawweights touch gloves before retreating to their corners. Penne flicks out a few jabs as Jedrzejczyk steps forward to deliver a speedy body-head combination. A left hook sends Penne shooting for a takedown, and she winds up holding Jedrzejczyk on the fence with an underhook, trying to hook the leg and trip the Polish fighter to the ground. Jedrzejczyk fends off the takedown and forces Penne to release by snapping her head back with a big uppercut. Jedrzejczyk sticks a long jab in Penne’s breadbasket, then the American charges forward, wraps up the champ and trips her to the ground. Jedrzejczyk springs right back up with Penne still clung to her waist, then switching to a high body lock. Jedrzejczyk tries to go limp and slip out but Penne keeps hold. Jedrzejczyk finally breaks the grip by pushing Penne’s head away with both hands and then drilling her with an elbow strike. Penne ducks under a big right hand and hugs Jedrzejczyk on the fence again, but Jedrzejczyk reverses the trip takedown and leaves Penne on her back. Referee Goddard orders the challenger to her feet, where a left hook from Jedrzejczyk sends Penne dropping to the ground on her back. Penne drives forward and buries her head as Jedrzejczyk tries to pound her out, then drops back to guard when the Pole stands up to kick at her legs. Referee Goddard warns the fighters to keep active or risk a stand-up, and that’s what happens when Jedrzejczyk stops kicking the legs. In the final five seconds, Penne hits a head-and-arm throw, dumping Jedrzejczyk on her head just before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Jedrzejczyk
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Jedrzejczyk
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Jedrzejczyk

Round 2

Jedrzejczyk opens with a leg kick and then tags Penne with three or four straight, speedy punches down the center. Penne drives ahead and grabs Jedrzejczyk around the waist to try another takedown on the fence, but Jedrzejczyk frees herself and forces Penne to cover up with a right high kick. A front kick pushes back Penne’s head but doesn’t land flush but seems to bloody Penne’s nose. When Penne tries to get into the pocket and clinch, Jedrzejczyk decks her with a level elbow which may have broken the challenger’s nose. Jedrzejczyk tries to polish her off with punches on the fence, but Penne stays alive by holding Jedrzejczyk with a body lock. The champion gets loose halfway through the round, Penne’s blood smeared over her face. Jedrzejczyk’s counter punches are busting up Penne even further, and now the champ adds a few clinch knees. The left side of Penne’s face is coated in blood as she moves backward, absorbing more crisp punches. Jedrzejczyk traps her against the fence and land a few more punches, leaving referee Goddard to call for Penne to fight back. A straight left lands clean for Jedrzejczyk, then a pair of head kicks knock Penne from side to side. An overhand right, a knee, an elbow and a flurry of a dozen or more right hands close out an outstanding round for Jedrzejczyk.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-8 Jedrzejczyk
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Jedrzejczyk
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-8 Jedrzejczyk

Round 3

Penne’s corner has succeeded in stopping some of the bleeding from her nose, but the challenger still looks a mess as she emerges for round three. Jedrzejczyk doesn’t help matters by sticking a couple hard jabs in her face. Jedrzejczyk catches a kick and chops the rear leg out from underneath the challenger. Penne gets up, whiffs on a tired right hand, takes another hard strike to the lead leg. Jedrzejczyk scores with more low kicks, more straight punches, having no regard for Penne’s strikes at this point. Halfway through the round and the fight, Penne digs an underhook and puts Jedrzejczyk against the cage to try a trip takedown. Jedrzejczyk takes a knee, then stands and shoves Penne away. Penne is a horror show late in round three, a huge mouse on the right side of her forehead accentuating the blood smeared over the rest of her face. Jedrzejczyk gets her against the fence and tees up some big right hands. When Penne covers up and begins waiting for the right hands to crash through, referee Marc Goddard finally stops the fight. Joanna Jedrzejczyk becomes the first woman to defend the UFC strawweight title, and does so in emphatic fashion.

The Official Result

Joanna Jedrzejczyk def. Jessica Penne via TKO (Punches) R3 4:22
