A heavyweight rematch between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez has been targeted for UFC 207 (online sportsbooks) on Dec. 30.

MMAjunkie.com first reported the booking on Thursday, although it has yet to be announced by promotion officials. Werdum defeated Velasquez via third-round guillotine choke to claim the heavyweight title in the first meeting at UFC 188 in Mexico City last year. UFC 207 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be the promotion’s final card of 2016; no bouts have been confirmed for the event.

Velasquez appeared to be next in line to face reigning champion Stipe Miocic, but the American Kickboxing Academy product said he would rather stay active than wait for a title shot. After knocking out Alistair Overeem at UFC 203, Miocic revealed that he planned to take some time off after fighting three times in nine months.

“If Stipe doesn’t want to want to take a break, I want him next,” Velasquez said on UFC Tonight. “If he does want to take a break — I’ve been hearing that he might want to fight in 2017. If that’s the case, the only fight that I would want and the only fight that would make sense right now would be to fight Werdum in December.

“This is personal.”

After dropping the title to Miocic at UFC 198, Werdum returned to the win column at UFC 203, earning a unanimous decision over Travis Browne in the evening’s co-main event. Velasquez, meanwhile, was dominant in stopping Browne inside of the opening stanza at UFC 200.
