Jon Fitch Confident ‘Big Ten Wrestling’ Will be Too Much for Paul Daley at Bellator 199

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweights Jon Fitch and Paul Daley meet on Saturday night in the co main event at Bellator 199. Fitch will be making his Bellator MMA debut, while Daley is going into his ninth fight with the promotion.

The two were on course to be matched up while both were fighting under the UFC back in 2010, as they were moving up the welterweight division. The fight never came to fruition as Daley was banned from the UFC after punching former UFC welterweight Josh Koscheck at the conclusion of their fight on May 2010.

Talking with MMAMania.com, Fitch said he’ll have too much for “Semtex” due to his wrestling.

“You know he comes to fight and I respect what he does, but I think I’ve got him outclassed as a fighter. I mean that’s generally what I do with everybody (in a fight), that’s what I try to do -- see if they can sink or swim. Yeah I think it’s a good strategy to get in his face and put some Big Ten wrestling on him.”

Fitch (30-7-1, 1 NC) comes into his Bellator MMA debut riding a four fight winning streak with notable wins over Yushin Okami and Jake Shields and capturing the World Series of Fighting belt along the way.

Daley (40-15-2) is coming off a second-round knockout over former UFC fighter Lorenz Larkin. In his Bellator career, Daley has only lost to Rory MacDonald, who is the reigning welterweight champion, and Douglas Lima who is the former 170-pound title holder.

The main event of Bellator 199 will be a Heavyweight Grand Prix bout between Ryan Bader and Muhammed Lawal.
