Jon Jones: ‘There Will Be Many More Fights to Come’ If It’s in God’s Will

It took a little bit longer than expected, but Jon Jones has reacted to Daniel Cormier becoming the second simultaneous two-division champion in UFC history.

Jones didn’t offer any commentary regarding his rival’s feat, however. Instead, he chose to contemplate his own future in a brief statement on Twitter.

“Just keep in mind that life is a journey and not a race,” Jones wrote. “If it’s in Gods will for me to still be here and healthy, please believe that they’ll be many more fights to come. Let’s not forget I’m still the youngest guy in the top 5 at [heavyweight and light heavyweight].

The 30-year-old Jones last appeared at UFC 214, where he stopped Cormier in the third-round to briefly win back the 205-pound belt. However, the Jackson-Wink MMA product was stripped of the belt after testing positive for the anabolic steroid Turinabol in relation to the event. Jones still is awaiting sanctions from USADA for the failed drug test – the second of his UFC tenure.

Jones’ statement regarding age is not 100 percent true, as fighters such as light heavyweight Volkan Oezdemir (28) and heavyweights Curtis Blaydes (27) and Alexander Volkov (29) all reside in the Top 5 of the UFC rankings. However, “Bones” is relatively young when compared to many of the ranked fighters in both of those divisions.

The 39-year-old Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic in the opening stanza of the UFC 226 headliner on Saturday to claim heavyweight gold. For now, it doesn’t appear as though “DC” and Jones will square off for a third time, as Cormier plans to retire by March after two more fights.
