LAS VEGAS – Jared Gordon pulled out a tough victory on Saturday and explained his reasons for calling out UFC newcomer Paddy Pimblett.
Gordon (18-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) took on Joe Solecki (11-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) on the final prelim bout of UFC Fight Night 193 and emerged victorious in a close split decision by earning favor from two of the three judges with scores of 29-28, while his opponent earned the same score from the dissenting judge.
During his post-fight interview, Gordon called out Pimblett, who made his promotional debut in September.
“This is what I want,” Gordon told MMA Junkie and other reporters during the post-fight news conference about calling out someone like Pimblett who has a lot of fanfare. “I know I have the skills to do it. I think I’m underrated and because I don’t have crazy knockout finishes, people count me out. I’ve lost some fights against monsters, but I have to go through the downs to get to the ups, so this is just par for the course.”
