Stevie Ray signs with PFL, will debut in 2022 season

One year after announcing his retirement from MMA, “Braveheart” is back.

MMA Junkie today learned from two people with knowledge of the agreement that Scottish lightweight Stevie Ray (23-9) has agreed to a multi-fight deal with the PFL and is expected to debut in the promotion’s 2022 season. Those people requested anonymity because the organization has yet to make an official announcement.

Ray competed 11 times under the UFC banner, most recently in October 2019, earning a majority decision win over longtime veteran Michael Johnson. Ray was scheduled to return against Marc Diakiese in March 2020, but a knee injury forced him to withdraw from the contest. He was then linked to a fight with Mike Davis in Abu Dhabi during the UFC”s “Fight Island” run but was unable to secure a visa for the event and was subsequently released from the promotion.

A frustrated Ray then retired from the sport but is now primed for a return.

The 31-year-old Ray also owns notable UFC wins over Joe Lauzon and Ross Pearson among others.

Prior to his UFC run, Ray also owned titles on the European regional scene for both Cage Warriors and BAMMA.
