With Jorge Masvidal vs. Leon Edwards booked, Gilbert Burns and Neil Magny re-angle for fight

Two of the UFC welterweight division’s most game fighters, Gilbert Burns and Neil Magny, have sparked back their interest in fighting each other.

After preferred choices Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards were paired up to fight at UFC 269 on Dec. 11, former title challenger Burns (20-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) seems open again to fighting Magny (25-8 MMA, 18-7 UFC).

Burns initially called out Magny in early September but then rescinded his callout after Magny wasn’t “thankful” for the opportunity to face him. But with few top contenders remaining as options and his unwillingness to fight good friend and teammate Vicente Luque, Burns appears to have accepted Magny’s callout.

Burns is coming off a unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson at UFC 264 in July, cementing his position at the top of the division. Meanwhile, Magny continued to come up big as an underdog when he defeated rising contender Geoff Neal at UFC on ESPN 24 in May.
