The way he sees it, the title shot was a welcomed bonus, not an expectation.

But for those respective fighters, former light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and middleweight Chris Weidman, neither is likely to get a shot at the belt in his next fight.

Stepping in for Machida is Vitor Belfort, who vacates a bout with Alan Belcher at UFC 153 to take the title fight.
UFC officials announced the fight overnight. Machida's manager, Ed Soares, told MMAjunkie.com a statement regarding the situation will be released today.

With UFC title shot in his future, Lyoto Machida says Jon Jones has 'a weak point'August 06, 2012 (17:00) [ Indexed from MMAjunkie ] Lyoto Machida believes UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has a weakness - even if he may be unsure of what it is, specifically.
Machida, himself a former champ, on Saturday found himself in the coveted "next contender" position once again. His dominant win over Ryan Bader at UFC on FOX 4 in Los Angeles put him at the front of the pack.
Of course, whether or not he'll have to worry about finding Jones' weakness remains to be seen since Jones still must get past Dan Henderson in his next title defense at UFC 151 on Sept. 1.
