Strikeforce cancels Nov. 3 event in Oklahoma City, plans January return

Strikeforce has canceled its Nov. 3 event in Oklahoma City, the organization today announced.
Injuries to headliner Frank Mir, as well as co-headliner and middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, prompted the cancellation, officials stated in today's release.
While rumors of the organization's potential demise have swirled in recent weeks, Strikeforce and Showtime officials stated they plan to host the next Strikeforce event in January.
Strikeforce not yet licensed for Nov. 3 show, but Oklahoma commission expects no issues

Strikeforce has yet to submit a promoter's license or seek a permit for an event on Nov. 3 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, but the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission still expects the event to take place.
OSAC representative Aleta Billings today told MMAjunkie.com that Strikeforce restated its intent to promote the card as recently as two weeks ago, but hasn't heard anything since.
Billings said a reasonable cutoff for the promotion to submit the paperwork is "a couple of weeks out" and indicated the commission hasn't received any indication of a possible cancelation.

Despite the organization reportedly facing an uncertain future, the fight card for Strikeforce's Nov. 3 event continues to take shape. For now, anyway.
A lightweight fight between Bobby Green and Jorge Masvidal, which MMAjunkie.com first reported this past month, is now official for the card.
However, a report from HDNet's "Inside MMA" suggests the event may not take place and that Strikeforce and Showtime may soon sever ties.

Strikeforce's next scheduled card continues to be slammed with injuries.
The latest is Sara McMann, who has been forced out of a fight with Liz Carmouche. MMAWeekly.com first reported the news, which MMAjunkie.com subsequently confirmed with sources close to the event.
Strikeforce's next show is set for Nov. 3 in Oklahoma City, though the event now is without three major fights, including the main and co-main events, due to injury.
Report: Luke Rockhold injured, out of Strikeforce title defense vs. Lorenz Larkin

Luke Rockhold reportedly has suffered a wrist injury and is out of his title defense next month.
The injury is the latest blow to Strikeforce's Nov. 3 card in Oklahoma City, which now is missing complete main and co-main events. Rockhold was scheduled to defend his middleweight title against Lorenz Larkin in the night's co-feature.
News of Rockhold's injury first was reported by The MMA Corner, citing sources close to the fighter's camp, though neither Strikeforce nor Rockhold have made announcements of the news yet.

Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has risen quickly during her recent title reign, yet a much-anticipated fight with currently suspended ex-featherweight champ Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos has seemingly been stalled by public bickering over a proposed weight class.
UFC President Dana White, though, suggested progress is being made.

With his Nov. 3 Strikeforce headliner a little more than a month away, Cormier is publicly campaigning for an opponent, and it's sticking with the Strikeforce-vs.-UFC theme.

UFC boss White confirms Matt Mitrione turned down Strikeforce fight with Daniel Cormier

NOTTINGHAM, England -Dana White thought he had Daniel Cormier's next opponent all set up. Instead, it was back to the drawing board.
Cormier was scheduled to fight former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir in about a month in Oklahoma City. But Mir dropped out with an injury, and White and the Zuffa brass went to work on his replacement.
White thought it was going to be Matt Mitrione -but the UFC heavyweight turned down the fight earlier this week.
